The Chicago Legal Clinic seeks a Development Director to work closely with the Executive Director and the Clinic's administrative team, of which the Development Director will be an integral part. Job duties include the following:

1. Preparation and submittal of grant applications and proposals.

2. Preparation and submittal of all grant reports required by Clinic's current and ongoing funders.

3. Creation, ongoing maintenance and updating of the Clinic's grant calendar.

4. Conduct ongoing research and outreach to locate additional funding and grant opportunities for the Clinic. Bring those opportunities to the attention of the organization and engage in the necessary outreach and drafting of proposals to secure said opportunities.

5. Interface with Clinic Staff Attorneys, Legal Program Supervisors, and support staff on an ongoing basis to enlist the participation of staff in providing the information and data necessary to meet grant reporting requirements. Assess on an ongoing basis the operations of all Clinic programs and ensure that program operations are accurately reflected in reporting materials and meet funding requirements.

6. Participate as requested by the Executive Director in other Clinic-wide projects, including assisting the Executive Director with obtaining information necessary for the preparation of the Clinic's 990 and Audit, and assisting the Executive Director and individuals from the development team and Board of Directors with planning for the Clinic's annual banquet.


J.D. and admission to practice law in the State of Illinois preferred.

The successful candidate will have a background in nonprofit work and/or Legal Aid and public interest law, and a strong commitment to social justice and the Clinic's mission of providing legal services to the poor and the underserved.

The successful candidate will also have a familiarity with the grantmaking process, and, most importantly, the metrics, data, and tools used to convey information to the entities that fund legal services for low-income individuals in the State of Illinois.

The successful candidate will be a superb writer with a creative eye for program opportunities and partnerships that can increase and extend the Clinic's ability to serve people in need throughout Chicagoland.
